Jim Davis was born on July 28, 1945, in Marion, Indiana. My son loves Garfield and he went from a student in "reading recovery" at school (that means below grade level) to a student who reads 2-3 grades above his grade level because of his desire to read MORE Garfield than I was willing to read to him at night. Luckily, unlike many book series, this series goes on forever! And Jim Davis, bless his heart, has made it so affordable to collect his books in these fat cat 3-packs (3 books in one cover) and Amazon has made it even MORE affordable. Unlike some books made for kids (like Cap'n Underpants, for example) there are no misspelled words as the author tries to mimic what a kid's comic would look like, there is little if any violence like in some comic books, no scantily clad comic character women, no racey themes are statements.... It's just perfect for a kid in elementary school learning to read... and now and then, I'll read a few pages... and grandma loves to steal one, too... so it's just nice for all ages. So glad we stumbled on to these! It's a long-lived interest that has helped him so much!

I thought these books were great! They were hilarious and I understood all of the jokes. I highly reccomend these books for grades 3-8. These books are really popular at my middle school. I love how they combined three of the books into one. I also love how Garfield insultes Jon’s intellect. By the way this was only thing I got from my parents for Christmas!!! I will ask my mom to buy me more for my birthday as the birthday gift. Jim Davis is my favorite author.(This is probably the only thing that I will probably get for my birthday*sigh*)

Oh My Dear Fat Sarcastic, Non-Empathic Garfield, How You do Make My Son and Me Guffaw with Laughter!I have been purchasing these wonderful FAT CAT 3-PACKS for quite some time. My son is twelve and has been reading GarfieldFat Cat since he was a Tot, and continues reading as a "Tween." For those who don't know, the book comes as one thick book, thus the "3-pack" although to be perfectly honest, that could seem to be a bit misleading. My first purchase many years ago had me thinking I was getting three books. I was very happy when I saw just how thick (a good inch or more) the big soft bound comic strip book was; so, no complaints here.He had asked for Volume 1, but I couldn't understand why it was so expensive at some places and yet hard to find at others. Well, I found GARFIELD FAT CAT 3-PACK VOL 1 here, and decided to buy it used. It arrived in about two weeks in almost perfect/new condition.

I had no idea this existed until I heard it mentioned on Family Guy fairly recently. It is a taste creative genius that I did not expect from this old family classic comic writer. I love when you find these diamonds in a sea of norms. This was an artist that wanted to try something else because he can. He earned it. Thank you, Jim and everyone else that contributed.

Ordered to replace the one the kids wore out at my parents' place-- that we had from when I was a kid!Got the package, opened it up, and I thought my five year old son was going to explode. (With joy.) Once he calmed down enough to be understandable, he was very happy that the "Great Garfield book from grandma and granpa's!" is now at our house.Down side: he is even more of a Garfield fanboy than before.

I bought this book as a gift for my 8-year-old grandson who adores Garfield. He loved it! I was a bit anxious at first since they are labeled "graphic," but they are completely fine. They read just like one of his cartoons. They just happen to be in a book form.

I have been buying the separate Garfield books as they are released in Kindle format on Amazon, but for some reason seven random volumes (2,3,4,19,26,37,38) are restricted to the USA only. I have tried contacting Amazon and the publishers several times but no one can provide an answer why. The complete set of separate Garfield books can currently only be bought in the USA, and I have wasted my money.If you plan to buy a collection of Garfield books, buy the more recent 'Garfield Complete Works' instead.

I purchased for my 11 year old son who is obsessed with Garfield. This book is filled with classic Garfield comics, just like in the "Funny" Section of the Sunday paper, only now all in one place. We own several volumes of the Garfield Fat Pack books, and he said so far this is his favorite. I love that I can find on Amazon where I cannot find in stores locally. Well priced and fast shipping was an added bonus as this mom forgot as a Christmas gift. It arrived in plenty of time.

The episode of Seinfeld where Frank Costanza was noted to be a collector of TV Guide pretty much cemented that publication's place in the lore of pop culture. Now, from Bangzoom publishers comes "TV Guide" the official Collector's Guide. A lot of collector's books claim to be the only book you'd ever need to own but this one truly fits the bill. With over 3700 pictures, and every national and regional TV Guide cover pictured from 4/10/1953 through 10/19/2005 this is truly the ultimate resource for not only collectors, but fans of the magazine as well.With a foreward by senior TV Guide editor Michael Davis, the book provides info geared towards the collector on where to buy, grading, and preserving your TV Guide collection. The cover subjects are what drives the price of back issues with the very first issue featuring the baby Desi Arnaz Jr. being the most valuable. While I've never collected TV Guide I was a long-time Comic Book collector and basically TV Guides should be kept and stored the same way...in protective bags and ideally in acid free storage boxes.The guide provides a 19 page history of the magazine as well as a look at TV shows and trends by decade from the 40's through the 2000's; everything from Milton Berle and Howdy Doody to Lost and American Idol. I was born in the 1960's and love many of the shows from that era even though I didn't watch many in their initial runs. It wasn't until syndicated re-runs in the 1970's that I came to adore shows such Bewitched, Gomer Pyle, and Green Acres. As noted in the book, The Brady Bunch was never a top-rated show, but you'd hardly know that since it has gone on to become one of the most syndicated shows in history and a true TV legend.Next up is 213 pages which show each of those covers from 1953 through 2005 in full color and it's like a trip on a wonderful time machine to page through the decades to see many of the actors and shows that you remember so fondly, and many you may have forgotten such as The Governor and J.J. One TV Guide trend that seems to have ended some time in the early 80's was featuring Santa Claus on the cover of a December issue. The book concludes with a 68 page index and value guide for each issue and doubles as a handy checklist for collectors.Whether you are storing issues away chronologically like Frank Costanza, or just have a life long love of TV, you are certain to find something to enjoy in this fabulous book.Reviewed by Tim Janson

This book has several major flaws. For a start, there is no index. The only way to locate covers with your favorite stars or shows is to browse the pages year-by-year.The price guide only gives values for "mint condition" issues, with no guidelines for how to adjust value for copies in less than mint condition. (Most collectors' guides give a range of prices based on condition.)It would have been nice if they had included some lists, such as: the most valuable issues; issues with multiple covers; people who have appeared on the most covers; etc. All of these things are mentioned in the text, but there is no way to look them up except by browsing every listing.Despite these flaws, this is still an invaluable book for collectors, because of it's comprehensive checklist.

I have this book at home. I've had it since xmas 2006. Problem is, some of the pages are falling out. Is it just me, or was the book not put together properly? Perhaps a hard cover might more effectively keep the pages together.

I was so happy to receive the TV Guide Official Collector's Guide, it is a great publication!! It has a lot more information than I expected - comments by stars over the years and much more!! It is very colorful and I will enjoy reading it for years to come. This book has thousands of color pictures of TV Guide covers. By just looking at the pictures, I get a complete review course in the history of television. I also never knew that old TV Guides are collectible. Some are even worth thousands! This is a great book. There is a history of TV programs, which I am going to read at some point, but for now, I must admit that I just like looking at the pictures. It really brings back memories.

The competition demands that every resource, including wiring systems, need to be utilized to their maximum. The need for special wiring systems and greater capacity cabling for data communication equipment has created a generation of new job categories in the workplace such as telecommunication manager, communication wire planner, information system manager, connectivity specialist, communication wiring specialist, and so on. In our occupation areas, it is obvious that there is a need for a text dedicated to the "nuts and bolts" of telecommunication systems and cabling. Many books have been written on higher level subjects in telecommunication such as local area networking, designing LANs, telecommunication systems, and so on. However, the cabling and wiring sections of such books seldom offer any practical information for those involved in designing, installation, testing, or updating of wiring systems that are critical to the operation of any telecommunication system. This book is just a basic overview of the telecom industry however it is quite old and really outdated. The industry has evolved in the last five years to encompass higher speeds and more components which this edition does not include. However overall it's a good read if your just getting into the industry. I purchased this book for the Florida state alarm exam along with a bunch of other books. I took the online prep course with Steve Dale at Power Learning Systems. That helped a lot. I don't believe I would have passed this very hard exam without taking this course. Also, you need to get all the state approved reference books because the exam questions are from every book that is listed on the state website.

This was a really good one. The characterization and sense of place were very well done. Fast paced with a lot of twists and turns and great dialogue are all here. I really appreciated the way west London seemed to come to life for me.One drawback for me were the extended fight scenes with every move documented. I'm certain the author choreographed each of those scenes and they're accurately depicted, they were just too long/ too detailed for me. There is also a rather graphic torture scene that I could have done without.I read the kindle version. For some reason that isn't showing available at this time.

I really enjoyed this book. As I noted in the the title, this is a tightly plotted book that moves quickly. The characters are well developed and enjoyable. I enjoyed the fact that this dealt with the South Asian culture in the UK which I don't think has received much treatment in this genre. This was a hard book to put down. I eagerly look forward to the next installment in the series and highly recommend the book.

It's a violent novel about muslins living in England: they brought their custos and informal laws. It's a reasonable thriller, with sociological informations.,

I loved this book. It is a fantastic read, fast paced with tons of twists and turns. A protagonist you will find yourself rooting for the entire time. I highly recommend picking this. You will be on the edge of your seat.

I'm (vaguely) Asian, UK born and bred, married to an English guy (I was sooooo *not* marrying an Asian, but that's a long story. My kid tells me he's not marrying an Asian girl, as even a 'vaguely' Asian mother is bad enough, lol!) and have known Southall for some 40 years now, so I could pretty much picture this tale as Zaq went about his task. It amused me to see an 'insider' write about his own community, exposing some pretty big warts that we all know are there, but it's stuff that's never talked about. Asians are, of course, all upstanding pillars of the community. Yeah, right, my bottom! (I can't say what I really want to say, or else the review will get pulled).The tale doesn't let up, and it reads like a made-for-TV show, with RL bad guys who have a weird sense of morality (it's OK to kill, to lie, to beat your sister up, threaten her and her boyfriend, but the family name and its rep in the 'community' must be protected at all times, and killing in the name of restoring family honour is an OK thing - not), and who're laughable in their descriptions that I could totally imagine. This tale has a visual that I think you'd have to know Southall to be able to fully see and get. The only thing missing from the RL Southall that I know, was mention of marriage bureaus, some bhangra and going to the Gurdwara/mosque to pray post-doing-bad-stuff, because yeah, praying absolves everything you've done, cleaning your slate and letting you live a 'decent' life - until the next time you decide that your cause justifies any action you'd like to take. Yeah, right.And how refreshing to see Zaq, a British Muslim who is British in every way, not a guy indoctrinated by his culture and elders. I loved how he wasn't religious, how he loved a bacon sarnie and how he refused to be intimidated by those who deemed he needed to be taught how to be a good Muslim. I'm a bit Zaq-like myself, and there have been clashes with my traditional mother (I've even been criticised for never once wearing a sari!) so I got the guy.The tale does follow the blurb, but refreshingly, there's no Bollywoodishness in it. It's fast-paced, there's a sense of darkness and danger, some low-key LOL moments (it's a tad stereotyping, but BMWs and Mercs are *loved* by Asians; they're a symbol of wealth and standing, and every idiot-type drove one. Asian guys do love their looks and love to build their muscles, but not always via hard work, and many do go to pot once they've married, etc.), and it caused some contempt in me that 'Asians' (using the term loosely to encompass Sikh, Muslim, Bangladeshi and more) can be so traditional, hypocritical and manipulative, and yet utterly faux-pious and didactic when it suits them. I wasn't surprised at all by the depictions, but was more 'Hmm. Yep, I can see that happening'.Based on this, I'd certainly read more from this author. I'm now off to see if he's hard at a WIP, and this book has already been passed to my non-Asian (English) hubby for his enjoyment (he's also very, very familiar with Southall and not fitting in).

Wow! This was pretty much non stop action all the way! In it, we meet Zaq who is recently out of prison and working pretty much the only job he can get, as a driver for a building supply company owned by Mr Brar, a prominent Sikh businessman. Things are mostly ticking along as nicely as they can until, one day, he is called into Brar's office and given a different task. Brar's daughter Rita has run away. Not only that, she appears to have absconded with a Muslim boy. As you can imagine this is not good for the family as it brings shame upon them all in the community. Zaq's job is to find her and bring her home, something he really doesn't want to get involved with but Brar threatens him with a return to prison if he does not complete his task. Damned if you do... But as Zaq soon discovers when he starts his mission that other members of the Brar family have their own agendas for wanting Rita home and it isn't just to step up to her arranged marriage.Ignoring for a moment the whole Sikh/Muslim undertones that weave themselves through pretty much every aspect of this book, this story held me completely enthralled throughout my time reading it. As already mentioned, it was pretty much action packed the entire way and I lost count of the number of times I held my breath in anticipation of the outcome. As the layers of what was really going on started to be peeled back and the truth became more evident, this turned the whole book on it's head from what I originally though it was going to be about; well, me and Zaq both to be honest. There's definitely a lot going on but it never seemed to be so busy that it overloaded itself.Zaq, well, where do I start with him? He's one of those people that is definitely not the sum of his actions. He has been scuppered a tad by circumstance and misfortune but he is really trying to get himself back on track. Initially he was threatened with repercussions should he fail to return Rita to her family but, after he learned things, I fully believe that he would have stepped up and done the right thing irrespective at the end of the day. He has a good close friend in Jags who is pretty much his sidekick throughout; again scuppering the whole Sikh/Muslim divide.I am not sure if this is true overall, it definitely is for me, but I seem to be seeing Asian based crime fiction books more prominently these days. I have certainly read my share of them in the last couple of years and I do find the background and culture to be fascinating. But, if I am honest, and I know that the whole point was probably to illustrate the character and background of the people Zaq worked with but the use of the native language did start to grate on me after a while. Not enough to mark the book down as it is obviously a personal choice. Yes, most of it was guessable or superfluous but it did break my concentration a bit along the way.All in all, a captivating read that kept me guessing for the majority and entertained for the entirety. Will we be seeing Zaq again in future books, I really hope so; I kinda like him.My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
