I did this backwards, I started with the latest book, then the next newest one, Murder at St. George's Church, now I have to go back and get the rest, but I'm starting with the first this time. Wasn't sure I would like this series, but found I couldn't put the book down, loved it. Loved the next one also and can't wait to get some more of them. Ginger Gold is interesting, I love the period in England between the two World Wars, so this just was the book for me.
So Ginger and Basil go on their honeymoon and a wonderful time was had my all, not. First you have Felicia tagging along, then you have a deceased person, and a lot a shady characters to interview and well you get the meaning. All this adds up to an enjoyable good read as Basil and his new wife solve the case. Will they ever get their honeymoon, read the story to fine out.
I enjoyed reading another episode in Lady Ginger Hood's (now Mrs. Basil Reed's) life.As always the forward motion was perfectly paved for me, the characters and their development delightful, and the resolution satisfactory. The reason for the murder was intriguing, and, although I reduced the murderer early in the book, the details and action around that person's discovery was tense and worrisome. My congratulations to Lee Strauss on another success! PS, I really enjoyed Ginger's letter from America at the end of the story.
The plot is okay for a cozy. But I just can’t stand the over-over-over-use of “shall.†Is that supposed to make it sound British upper-crusty? Also, the diction seems out of keeping for 1924. For example, the word “update†is first attested in the 1940s. It’s jarring in the speech of a 1924 character.
This is another fun, well crafted entry into Lee Strauss's Ginger Gold/Lady Gold, now Mrs Basil Reed series. They're off on their honeymoon, riding the famous Flying Scotsman to Edinburgh, but they only get as far as York before murder, theft and general mayhem strike. Interesting cast of characters, enough twists and turns to keep us interested - is the murder and theft linked? If so, how? I dearly love these characters and am already eager for the next installment in their continuing story.
Kind of silly construct. The story just isn’t there and the characters are very flat. Tried to be sensational, but There really was no tension, little logic and underscores the British class system. Too many threads that just went nowhere. Not even exciting for a honeymoon...
Love this series and this installment as well. I love the historical aspects and the fashion descriptions. I also love cozy mysteries and this series is one of my favorites. I am looking forward to the next book.
I have become quite a fan of Ginger Gold, and I’ve been looking forward to the latest installment in her adventures. It did not disappoint, and I’m only sorry that I finished it. I recommend it without hesitation.
