What's your favorite type of recipe? My general food philosophy is that I want something that's quick, easy, and healthy. (If it's relatively inexpensive too, we have ourselves a true winner!) Good and Simple is built upon that philosophy--the recipes are packed with nourishing ingredients and aren't super complicated to make! :] I also really like that they try to use everything so as to lessen waste!Every chapter in Good and Simple includes related recipe ideas and tips and tricks on cooking, storage, on-the-go meals and portability, making use of leftovers, entertaining guests, meal pairing ideas, and more. There are 140 recipes, and each one includes an intro, serving size, ingredient list, instructions, with topping ideas, tips and variations shared wherever applicable. The chapters include:BreakfastSoups and StewsSides and SnacksSandwiches and SaladsFish and MeatVegetable MainsDips, Dressings, Sauces and SpreadsBaking, Desserts and SweetsDrinksAt the end of the book, there are also tips on planning ahead. I've long been a fan of bulk cooking since I don't have time for much else, and there are helpful shopping lists, sample menu plans, how/what to stock up [in] your kitchen, as well as tips on healthy habits to start/maintain, ideas on natural beauty and cleaning products, and how to eat well on the go. Most of the recipes don't call for a whole ton of ingredients, and there are often vegan/vegetarian substitutions available. The food photography in here is also gorgeous (just in case you haven't noticed).I do kinda wish the cover was a little different--the half-book-jacket sometimes catches and makes the book more difficult to close unless I have it just right, but if that's the only thing that I have to complain about, it's a good thing. It's what's inside that counts anyway. :] I definitely think this book would be a valuable one to keep in your arsenal! :] I definitely think this book would be a valuable one to keep in your arsenal! :]Disclaimer: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. As always, all thoughts + opinions are mine and mine alone.

I decided to try eating clean and was having a hard time finding a good recipie book to help me pn my way. I tried searching blogs and magazines online and I found some pretty uninspired recipies or was super time consuming and required a lot.of specialty ingredients that were both hard to get and expensive in my small city. I found an article online reccomending another cookbook of theirs and thought that was the cookbook I was buying. I'm so happy to have made that mistake. The food is simple but so good. Clean up is a breeze and the shopping lists and meal plans are so helpful. Its seasonal variations and vegetarian, vegan, and meat options are amazing and easily customizable. The directions are so easy to understand and follow. I am so in love with this book I have been reccomending it loudly and often to everyone.

Great great great recipes. I love watching them on Zing. I had a hard time on there Web site or on there show converting the recipe to cups and table spoons. So it great that all the recipes don't need to be converted. Yea😃there so easy to follow and test great!

Fantastic recipes, using wholesome healthy ingredients to make excellent, creative, and nutritious food.

These recipes are OK, but they are neither quick nor simple. Requires many special ingredients and lots of ingredients. Not very impressed with this book! (Wish I had saved my money and gotten something else)

Well made, sturdy cookbook. Full of yummy recipes that are easy!

Creative and delightful cookbook by two adorable sisters who love food and know a lot about how to eat in a healthy manner, deliciously.

Great recipes and healthy to boot.

I watch their cooking show on Z living and I think they are just terrific

This book, along with Think Stats: Exploratory Data Analysis,Think Bayes: Bayesian Statistics in Python, and Bayes' Rule: A Tutorial Introduction to Bayesian Analysis, improved my understanding for the motivations, applications, and challenges in Bayesian statistics and probabilistic programming. For reference, my background is in computer science, viewed mostly from a software engineering perspectiveWhen you consider that this book is offered for free on Github, you're already getting a lot of value for free. If you're interested in seeing the exercise solutions (there are only a handful) or the additional chapter on A/B testing, then $17 for the e-book is a fair price. My only complaint is that I wish there were more exercises to test the reader along the way. You can re-implement many of the examples yourself, but having a few more questions, especially in the later chapters would be helpful for validating understanding.

There's a lot in here and, clearly, the author knows what he's talking about. However, it helps if you already have a background in statistics. Specifically, if you already know about prior and posterior probabilities you will have an easier time understanding this book. Installing PyMC under Windows can be challenging. It's not as simple as "pip install pymc". You might have to install the GCC with Windows specific libraries. Also, there might be an error on pg. 182 in Chapt. 6 - Getting our Priorities Straight (good sense of humour). The analysis that "TSLA is a strong performer" might be incorrect. I tried emailing the author but got no response on this. All that being said, this is a good book with a lot of information in just over 200 pages.

Great open source book, hard copy was definitely worth the buy.

This is a very informative guide to thinking about programming from a Bayesian point of view. The word hackers in the title may be misleading to some, but if you think about hackers as explorers, builders and people who like to figure out how things, work, this is an approach to reason and thinking that can open new doors to a "hacker." The math can get a little funky at times, but that's a problem for you just power through and keep reading because the math is there to help illustrate the approaches and isn't specifically required for all of the exercises.

Good book; an updated pymc3 version is available online (for free), but I have found pymc (pymc2) is better for learning MCMC. Recommended.

I really like the book, but want to bring up two things neglected by its author. One is acknowledgments. "Bayesian Methods For Hackers" did not appear in a vacuum. I would like to see a hat tip to the creators of PyMC, and at least a mention of BUGS, the still-very-much-alive software which brought Bayesian methods to academic masses and inspired MCMC-engine projects like PyMC. Then there are PyMC's cousins JAGS and STAN - these can be familiar to the R crowd - and people who wrote popular books on Bayesian analysis, such as John Kruschke, the author of "Doing Bayesian Data Analysis". (I should also mention James Stone, with his "Bayes' Rule". "Bayesian Modeling Using WinBUGS" by Ioannis Ntzoufras could have had more impact, but its publisher, Wiley, sabotaged the book with greedy pricing and no-frills presentation. Looking into the near future - I see that Manning have their own "probabilistic programming" book in the works, by Avi Pfeiffer). Naming those people, programs and books would provide useful pointers to aspiring "Bayesian hackers".The second reservation is about editorial effort. The very first page (when it used "ascribe" instead of "subscribe") told me that the manuscript had not been proof-read. As I went through the book, I found more unpolished passages, and a handful of lines capable of triggering a facepalm by a statistics professor. Now, this is not a book for statistics professors - they don't tend to use Python, for starters, while BMH assumes that you have Python installed - and the practical question is whether these issues are going to seriously frustrate or mislead the average reader. My answer is "not really". Chapter 3, for example, is dodgy, yet realistically a "hacker" can just skip or skim it. (Kudos on page 77, by the way - simple and effective). Classical, non-Bayesian statistics misunderstood and unfairly maligned? Only a stats prof will care. I think you can get through smaller slip-ups. For example, on page 15, you can quickly figure out that "lambda_" is a vector - unlike "lambda_1" and "lambda_2", which are scalar parameters - and understand what it's for, even though the author is just telling you that it's a function. Or, on page 142, you can figure out what loss function is implemented in stock_loss(), even though the text does not tell you what it is. Page 42 asks "Why is the gamma axis greater than 1?" You realize that it's Y, not gamma, and the question is asking whether the PDF of a continuous distribution can be above 1, and move on.I find these complaints easy to overlook. Thinking "big picture", I see the first-ever accessible, engaging, visually appealing, practical, inexpensive introduction to Bayesian methods. Echoing - now in a positive way - the beginning of my review, there is a feeling of continuity, of a long-running collective project being advanced. First, a user-friendly MCMC engine is built by the BUGS team. Then, the PyMC team incorporates their MCMC engine into a programming language popular with the "data science" crowd, sprinkling Pythonesque syntax sugar over the BUGS model definition language. Finally, after a few years, a good book on PyMC shows up. Bayesian methods are now accessible to a broad, non-academic audience.American Statistical Association - give this man a medal.

No problems

A brilliant and practical introduction to these methods. It's been a vital entry point for me into the field.

When E. R. Braithwaite died recently (Dec 16 2016) at the age of 104, I realized that I had never read his famous book. I had seen the Sidney Poitier film, but had not read the book. I purchased a copy from Amazon and began to read. One thing I don't remember from the film was how qualified Braithwaite was for a job in science. He had a Ph.D. in physics, as well as extensive experience. His work in his field was interrupted by the war, where he served honorable as an officer in the R.A.F. He expected to obtain a job shortly after mustering out. Instead, he found the doors shut in his face because of racial prejudice. At last, desperate for a job, he took a position as a teacher in a school desperate for teachers. He found the attitude and lack of discipline on the part of the students in the East End school shocking. Slowly, using a combination of respect and discipline, and demanding the same from the students, he transformed a bunch of rowdies into a classroom of respectful students, ready to learn. The book is as much about race relationships as it is about education. Carefully negotiating the minefield of prejudice, his own anger, and closed doors, takes up a large portion of the book. Braithwaite describes the barriers to ordinary transactions such as trying to find an apartment, walking out with his white girlfriend, and ordinary encounters with the general public. The interactions with the students are entertaining, but it is his viewpoint on race relations that make the deepest impression.

Well, I LOVE the movie and picked up the book to see how it compares. I really LIKE the book--which, it turns out, is different but also the same in many ways, as I suppose most movies adapted from books are.I've read that author Braithwaite (who apparently truly was a brilliant and handsome black man, though of course no Sidney Poitier!) didn't like the movie. He found that it didn't focus enough on Sir's romance with a white teacher, a big part of the book, and considered it altogether too sentimental. Both points are valid: Sir and the teacher are just friends in the movie, whereas they become engaged in the book--I suspect that a mixed-race romance was considered too much for audiences a in 1967. And, yes, Lulu's song and the ending of the movie are sentimental but (imho) in a sweet and truly moving way.Changing the time period from the early '50s (when the kids "jive" to jazz) to the '60s (when the kids--and Sir--dance to rock & roll) was a wise decision by the filmmakers. The book is called an "autobiographical novel," which is a little confusing. It reads like pure nonfiction, written in first person by Sir. Braithwaite writes well and effectively conveys a raft of strong, sincere emotions--principally fury and frustration with English-style racism (at a time it was legally to refuse to hire someone only because he's a "Negro") and tokenism (there's a great scene in which Sir refuses to have his photo shot for propaganda purposes). The narrator's openness to new experiences and his love for the working-class kids of the East End also come through loud and clear. The book is an interesting snapshot of postwar East London, a bleak era for most Brits that was even bleaker for the tiny minority population of the time. Some hope for better days shines through, though, even without Lulu's song. It's a pretty quick read that I couldn't put down until the rather abrupt ending.

I must be on a sentimental journey involving some of my favorite films and the books they were based on. First, it was The Shrinking Man, and now it's To Sir, With Love. This time, the book compares very favorably to the movie. In the book, we see everything through the eyes of "Sir" instead of being an outsider-looking-in as we are in the movie. There are several things that were either glossed over or not even brought up in the movie-- in many cases I think the filmmakers wanted the audience to use common sense to realize, for instance, that the reason why Braithwaite could not get an engineering position was due to racism, not the fact that there were no jobs available. In fact, almost everything relating to racism was left out of the movie, no doubt in an effort to make it palatable to the greatest number of moviegoers. My final verdict? I still love the movie starring Sidney Poitier; I always will. But I am very glad that I read E.R. Braithwaite's autobiography. In reading the book I feel as though I've gotten much closer to learning the entire story while the movie gives me the Reader's Digest condensed version.

This is the diary of a Black man after World War II. College educated, from a well-mannered, professional family, Ricardo Braithwaite is from British Guiana. He is in London after serving in the RAF and can't find a job. No one wants to hire a Black engineer. So he takes a job at a rough East End school. At first the students and parents treat him with open racially motivated disdain, but he doesn't take the bait. Instead he behaves with dignity and, to their surprise, treats those who are cruel with the dignity and respect they have never experienced. He is an anomaly to them...a well-spoken Black man who behaves like an absolute gentleman in all situations. He addresses the female students as "Miss". He discusses the real life challenges that these students will face when the graduate. He is unlike any teacher they have ever known.

The quality of the binding and printing exceeded my expectations. I was worried it would be a rough print-on-demand type of publication, but it was the furthest thing from that. Not quite leather bound, but it has a similar sturdy feeling. The print quality is befitting of its valuable contents.

This is a well made hard cover book. The binding is sound. There is a ribbon marker. The pages are not too thin. Of course, I am extremely happy with the content as well. It is good to have a solid resource of the Catholic Faith which is easy to understand.

About the Author

ANDY KIRKPATRICK has a reputation for seeking out routes where the danger is real and the return is questionable, pushing himself on some of the hardest walls and faces in the Alps and beyond. He was born and raised on a council estate in Hull, one of the UK's flattest cities, and suffered from severe dyslexia, which went undiagnosed until he was 19. Thriving on this apparent adversity, Andy transformed himself into one of the world's most driven and accomplished climbers and an award-winning writer. In 2001 he undertook a 12-day solo ascent of the Reticent Wall on El Capitan, one of the hardest solo climbs in the world. This climb was the central theme of his first book Psychovertical, which won the 2008 Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature. Cold Wars is his second book. Andy lives in Sheffield with his two children. Learn more at his website, andy-kirkpatrick.com

Good book but stories were broken up. He wrote a lot about his wife in the book and then left us dangling about what happened to their relationship after he completed the Reticent Wall.

This is one terrific read. Andy reveals his thoughts, fears, and insufferable drive to succeed. Descriptions of his falls are hair-raising, and when this world class climber wisely retreats, or tops out with purpose and satisfaction, we can only stand to applaud and tip our hats (helmets) in respect.

Andy Kirkpatrick is crazy, but he alludes to this in the title and he further details his insanity in the story he tells. It's a great read and it didn't take me too long because it sucked me in and I just had to know what happened next.

Very good book to read, the right combination of fear and fun. We'll written, and you gain some insight on what it takes to climb.

`Psychovertical' is the excellent autobiographical book from Andy Kirkpatrick that quite rightly won the Boardman Trasker prize in 2008. It follows his life in climbing and is written in an accessible and engrossing way. This follows the format of having alternate chapters, with one telling the story of his major climb `The Reticent' on the big wall El Capitan and the others recounting other past climbs and events from his life. You flick back and forth between these events and single climb until you have a real feel for what makes Andy tick and inspires him to climb. Many parts of this book had me chuckling out loud or smiling to myself and the humour contrasted well with the danger that is inherent in climbing. There are two colour photo section that illustrate the various stories he tells, as well as a few black and white line drawings to show some of the technical equipment he uses. If you have read and if you enjoyed other climbing books, then this one should feature highly on your wish list. Kirkpatrick writes with style and humour and this makes for a couple of days excellent reading. Highly recommended.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Andy is really my type of climber. This book is honestly tied with Steve houses as the best climbing book i have ever read. I laughed my ass off reading this book. I also was terrified thinking Andy was gonna die. He weaves and laces his stories into the fabric of his life. You feel like you know him. There are some solemn parts too, the stuff about his wife and kids is real. Every time i do a dangerous climb i think about my family too. This and the Steve House book are the two MUST READ books in this category. I have a waiting list for my copies to be borrowed...

Climbers will def enjoy. Great read. It captures the love, excitement, thrilling effort and mind of a climber very well. Not too technical for non-climbers to read and not too "explainy" for knowledgeable readers to be annoyed. More of a memoir and reflection of a very interesting, introspective, climber persona. Dig it.

I thought this was a great book, Andy plays down all his achievements and is extremely honest about his weaknesses. I couldn't put it down and was willing him on through all the challenges and amazed at how he's gone about achieving his goals and his singlemindedness.

Stan Lee's memoir, "Amazing Fantastic Incredible", covers his life beginning with growing up as Stanley Martin Lieber during the Great Depression and dreaming about adventures through his current, non-Marvel work with his POW! Entertainment group. The narrative itself, told with the help of Peter David and Colleen Doran, takes the format of one of Lee's lectures, with him following topics as they relate to one another and not necessarily in chronological order. The authors use the graphic novel format to full effect, surrounding well-known Marvel artists with examples of their work or images related to the narrative, such as a boom tube to portray Jack Kirby's move to DC.Having researched the history of Marvel Comics while working on my M.A. thesis, I know that the narrative avoids covering some controversies with artists and businessmen in much depth, but Lee is not attempting to tell an academic history of the business. To his credit, Lee does not ignore these issues, he simply avoids dwelling on them when the purpose of his work is to tell his own life's story. And it is a good story, full of touching moments. Lee is genuinely saddened to have lost his working relationships with Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby.Lee details the famous Marvel Method that allowed the House of Ideas to turn out so many original characters in a relatively brief amount of time, continually describing his desire to write stories with realistic dialogue, natural humor, and believable characters. In fact, "Amazing Fantastic Incredible" reads like any of Lee's best comic books, with occasional asides to the reader. This latest autobiography will appeal to fans of Lee's work or Marvel fans in general.

Of course Stan Lee, the master of the Silver Age of Comics, would tell his life story in the form of a graphic novel. And of course it would be funny, touching, and discrete with the perfect balance of egotism and unexpected modesty. He is careful to pay tribute to the great artists who collaborated with him, and he finds a sense of humor about the bad times. This is a terrific companion piece to his earlier books, a kind of after and before look at one of the major griots of the 20th and, now, 21st centuries. (Disclosure: I made the A&E "Biography" episode on Stan Lee and I paid for my copy of this book.)

AHHH Man! This book or I should say....comic book Book is great! Any Stan Lee fan will totally like this comic book Book. Its Stan Lee's life story all in comic book form. It was mind blowing when I looked through this amazing comic book Book. Very well written and the drawings are so well drawn. It is a very unique way for Stan Lee to write about his life. All in comic book form! Very well done for the master that had this brilliant idea for Stan Lee. I will recommend this hard book comic book about Stan Lee to any comic book fan of Stan Lee's. Well worth the money. Enjoy!

I LOVED this. When I first heard about this book, I ordered it instantly, and then anxiously waited until the mailman dropped it off at my door.I love that the storyline is set up like Stan is giving a talk to a crowd- complete with getting carried away with a story and needing to stop and back up to fill in some details. Throughout the book, I thought that his voice and personality were captured perfectly. You could really feel his positivity, his pain, and his struggle. And of course the artwork was lovely!Favorite line:"As for what I read, it would be easier to say: what DIDN'T I read? I'd read the label on a bottle of ketchup if nothing else was around!"

So I just read all of Stan Lee’s autobiography in one sitting. As you can guess, I thought that it was “Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible: A Marvelous Memoir†which also just so happens to be its title. It introduced me to several aspects of Stan Lee’s life of which I was not aware, from the sad (his second daughter passed away while she was still a baby) to the humorous (he almost went to jail for “stealing†his own mail from the post office) to the downright weird (he once wrote a comic series about a stripper). What makes this autobiography (or, perhaps, semiautobiography) unique and completely fitting for the man whose story it tells is that it is in comic book form (hence the semiautobiography, as he had another writer assist him and an illustrator to do the art). Also fitting is that the art isn’t mere illustration, it actually helps to tell the story of his life and is inseparable from the writing (as any good comic book should be). I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan superheroes, pop culture, comics, biographies, or simply reading in general, as it is the story of a man who loves to read (and write!) and how that love has shaped his life. Excelsior!

I did not expect this to be in comic format but it makes sense. Great art and story of the father of comics. Should be in every comic collector's library. As for the shipping company, I will never do business with them again because it should not take one item over a month to arrive.

If you're a comic geek, you have probably heard all the convention stories and hype about the founder of the Marvel Universe. But this book made it feel like Stan was sitting down and just sharing his life with you. It will probably be missed by many, but the artist did some powerful subtle messages that added to the story. For example, when Stan mentions losing their child, the page has completely black background, and the expression on Stan's face and how he seems pained to discuss this event and just wants to move on was a very powerful presentation of that one event.

It came in great shape and secure in it's package. The only reason I gave it four instead of five is because the quality of the writing itself. I wish Stan Lee had gone further into depth about more characters and his dealing with Disney, so while it seems short comparatively to his long illustrious life, it was still a fun read. I definitely recommend it for Marvel and comic fans both.
